Nematzadeh : We are negotiating with the foreign investors to work in mines

Nematzadeh: Mines should be exempted from income-tax

Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh states in a press conference:

“Tax exemption is a major motivation for the development of mining and mineral processing industry and we are trying to open ways for the mining boom.” Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade says:

“We tried to overcome obstacles in the way of mines and, for example, 100 percent of the country’s areas were locked; and we ordered to free 80 percent of these areas to facilitate others contribution and we will see its impacts in the future.” He adds that the cases we were responsible for were completed.

He asserts:

“A number of obstacles are in regulations, which must be resolved by the government; in addition, some of the regulations are in reform process and now we are working on mining rules.” Nematzadeh indicates rate of bank loans is related to the mining industry problems and he says:

“We are trying to raise capital for mining investment insurance, while these resources are spent for mine machines procurement.” He adds:

“We are negotiating with the foreign investors to work in mines, and some of the investors are already working in mines.”

A Short Talk with Parviz Zol.Ala, CEO to Alvand Stone Company

On the last day of Expostone 2015, in spite of his limited time and the crowd of attendances and customers around him, Mr. Zol-Ala, CEO of Alvand Stone Company as the only Iranian participant in the exhibition, devoted some minutes to us, sharing his experiences.

IMG_3774

How do you evaluate Iranian stone trade in Russian market?

Russia is a grand country with great markets and diverse opportunities. So far, Iranian stone has not reached its proper status within Russian market.

And what is the reason, you suppose?

The reason is the lack of knowledge about Iranian stone. If branded as Italian, Iranian stone can well be sold right here in this exhibition three times more than its current price. An Italian brand is all they lack. Russians do not know Iranian stones. They worry the stones may include radioactive elements. We have not been successful in making our stones known to the world.

Except for an Iranian counterpart which last year participated at the exhibition, it is now three years that Alvand is the only Iranian participant in the exhibition. During these three years, we managed to make our products known to the global market. Russian great brands of stone, to which communication was not formerly possible even with prior appointments, are now becoming fans of ours and strongly demanding for our products.

Success in Russian market has its own difficulties, including relation-related issues and influence of Mafia networks on this trade; I feel, however, that Alvand has reached where he hoped to do.

Based on your experiences, what stones are probably more successful at Russian market?

We have numerous good stones; marble, granite, and onyx, however, are the ones which are of larger use to Russians.

IMG_3773

IMG_3777

We know that Russia has rich granite mines, and there are many Russian companies right here selling Russian granite. Chinese granite and granite of other countries are as well present in the exhibition. Now, would you consider it probable that someday Iranian granite be a great name of the field?

Yes, it is possible. As you know, Moscow is one of the most expensive cities of the world, and our final price at Russia is competitive.

Furthermore, due to Iran’s multi-climate conditions, Iranian stones are variously colored, which is unparalleled around the world. Diversity in color is one of the strengths of Iranian stones, making them well distinguished.

And about granite from other countries, yes, you are right. There are other countries, including China, who are active in the field. However, just put stones of ours and china beside each other and see how even in the appearance, Iranian stone shows its high quality when compared with those of China. And recognition of this difference does not need specialized knowledge on stones; every person can tell the difference with a mere look.

IMG_3779

And what are your advices to other stone producers who are interested in entering Russian market?

This market can be an especially productive one regarding the two countries being neighbors, good political relations between the two, and Iranian stone capabilities.

We should set principles, the first and most important of which is to make our stones known to Russian market. I, once again, emphasize that due to its high quality and diverse colors, Iranian stone can well be a rival to world’s greatest brands.

Proper advertisement, through participating in such exhibitions, for example, is one of the means to achieving the aforementioned goal.

Worldwide Demand for Natural Stone on the Rise

Markets: Worldwide Demand for Natural Stone on the Rise

January 24, 2013

World-wide demand for stone is on the rise. There is a strong concentration on a small number countries that produce stone, and big stone companies in the Euro-Financial-Crisis-Zone have mastered the difficulties by increasing exports. Those are the core statements in the current Statistical Yearbook, XXIII Report Marble and Stones in the World published in Italian and English by Aldus Publishers, Carrara.

Some 1.265 billion square meters of natural stone were used for construction in 2011. The meters square value is based on stone slabs 2 cm in width. That represents an increase of over 3.9% in comparison to the previous year. In relation, the 2001 demand was 709.5 million meters squared.

To get a realistic idea of what this means, the author compared the figures to those of the ceramics industry, which sold some 8.75 billion meters squared in 2011 – nearly 7 times more.

China leads the list in demand with 24.2 % of the market followed by India (7.5%), the USA (5.6%), Italy (4.5%), South Korea (4.2%), Brazil (3.9%) and Germany (2.9%).

نمودار اول _ انگلیسی

The size of the population plays an important role: the per capita demand in Belgium takes on the front runner position followed by Switzerland, Taiwan, South Korea, Italy and Portugal.

The author concludes that the potential for growth rests mainly in the former Newly Industrializing Countries (NIC) with a high population density and new middle class. The market, in short, is still far from being saturated.

Many of the NICs are already big players in terms of production of raw material in quarries: China alone produces 31% followed by India (12.1%), Turkey (9.1%), Iran (7.3%), Italy (6.5%), Brazil (6.3%) and Spain (4.7%).

In total, these seven countries are responsible for 77% of the world-wide production. Meanhwhile, Europe’s role is insignificant.

With 27.3% of the world’s stone exports in 2011, China was the undisputed winner with a monopoly in South Korean and Japanese markets and a strong position in US and EU markets.

With respect to US demand, Brazil’s $565 million worth of imports puts it in a firm first position supplying mostly kitchen worktops. It was followed by China with a volume of $411 million, Italy ($321 million), Turkey ($304 million), and India ($248 million).

chart

In analysis of the individual countries, the author notes that large companies in Greece, Spain and Portugal have successfully battled the break-down of local markets by increasing their exports of raw stone blocks destined for China.

Italy is still the world’s leader in manufacturing of heavy machinery for quarries.

ITU releases 2015 ICT figures

ITU releases 2015 ICT figures

Statistics confirm ICT revolution of the past 15 years

Geneva, 26 May 2015 – New figures released by ITU indicate that over the past 15 years, information and communication technologies (ICTs) have grown in an unprecedented way, providing huge opportunities for social and economic development.

The new figures track ICT progress and show gaps in connectivity since the year 2000, when world leaders established the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Today, there are more than 7 billion mobile subscriptions worldwide, up from 738 million in 2000. Globally, 3.2 billion people are using the Internet, of which two billion live in developing countries.

“These new figures not only show the rapid technological progress made to date, but also help us identify those being left behind in the fast-evolving digital economy, as well as the areas where ICT investment is needed most,” said ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao, at the press conference to launch the report today at the 2015 WSIS Forum in Geneva.

WSIS –World Summit of Information Society

“ICTs will play an even more significant role in the post-2015 era and in achieving future Sustainable Development Goals as the world moves faster and faster towards a digital society,” said Mr Brahima Sanou, the Director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau. “Our mission is to connect everyone and to create a truly inclusive information society, for which we need comparable and high-quality data and statistics to measure progress.”

Internet user penetration increased seven-fold since 2000

Between 2000 and 2015, Internet penetration has increased almost seven-fold from 6.5 to 43 per cent of the global population.

The proportion of households with Internet access at home advanced from 18 per cent in 2005 to 46 per cent in 2015.

ITU figures also indicate that four billion people in the developing world remain offline. Off the nearly one billion people living in the Least Developing Countries (LDCs), 851 million do not use the Internet.

3G mobile-broadband coverage rapidly extending

Mobile broadband is the most dynamic market segment, with mobile-broadband penetration globally reaching 47 per cent in 2015, a value that increased 12-fold since 2007. In 2015, 69 per cent of the global population will be covered by 3G mobile broadband, up from 45 per cent in 2011.

There is also a rapid extension of 3G mobile broadband into rural areas, and ITU estimates that 29 per cent of the 3.4 billion people worldwide living in rural areas will be covered by 3G mobile broadband by the end of 2015. Among the four billion people living in urban areas, 89 per cent will have access to 3G mobile broadband.

Fixed-broadband uptake growing at a slower pace

Fixed-broadband uptake is growing at a slower pace with a seven per cent annual increase over the past three years. While the prices of fixed-broadband services dropped sharply between 2008 and 2011 in developing countries, they have been stagnating since then and even increased slightly in LDCs.

Broadband now affordable in many countries

The figures indicate that broadband is now affordable in 111 countries, with the cost of a basic (fixed or mobile) broadband plan corresponding to less than five per cent of Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, thus meeting the target set by the Broadband Commission for Digital Development.  The global average cost of a basic fixed-broadband plan, as measured in PPP$ (or purchasing power parity $), is 1.7 times higher than the average cost of a comparable mobile-broadband plan.

How Smartphones and Tablets Have Changed the Stone Industry

Survey Shows How Smartphones and Tablets Have Changed the Stone Industry

July 12, 2013

Earlier this year when the new Pope, Francis, made his first appearance in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, a major newspaper published two photographs under the headline “How Apple has Changed the World.” The first photo, showed the crowd dutifully applauding when Pope Benedict made his first appearance years before. The second, with Pope Francis standing on his balcony, depicted tens of thousands of folks using smart phones and tablets to take photos of the new Pontiff greeting the masses. Welcome to the new world of communications.

In the six years since legendary Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, introduced the iPhone and others copied the concept, there has been a revolution and the stone industry is a part of it.

To gauge the impact of the smart phone and its bigger cousin, the iPad or tablet, MIA recently conducted a member survey to find out just how prevalent these devices and how important are they to the companies and individuals that use them. We also sought to determine the extent to which members are utilizing social media in their operations. The survey drew the largest response in the association’s history of doing this type of survey. The findings were literally unbelievable.

  • 96 percent of the more than 150 companies responding to the survey said they were using smart phones, with 76 percent calling them very important. Another 20 percent said they were somewhat important.
  • 9 out of 10 respondents said smart phones were used regularly to photograph new job installations. These photos are used to show to potential clients what to expect.
  • More than half (54 percent) said they were using iPads or tablets in marketing efforts, with little more than half of the respondents utilizing them to show customers examples of their work.
  • The number of companies developing their own apps for tablets was, at 15 percent, marginal.
  • 18 percent indicated they were using MIA-developed apps such as iStone and Stones of North America. Of those using MIA-developed apps, 84 percent rated them somewhat to very effective.
  • Over a quarter of MIA members responding said they have taken advantage of YouTube to show examples of their work and facilities.

MIA members are also using social media sites in their marketing efforts. Fifty-seven percent said they were using Facebook and Twitter, while 30 percent indicated they were using QR codes for marketing.

Among those reporting developing proprietary apps for tablet use, the concepts ranged from room scene visualizers to slab inventories. Several said they were using APPS developed by machinery and stone vendors. One major fabrication firm uses an iPad to load architectural drawings for use onsite.

Several companies said they were utilizing YouTube to show corporate capabilities, company commercials, slab inventory and how equipment work. Some equipment vendors are putting their entire product offerings on YouTube.

Most respondents are continually updating their web sites…some, daily. “We spent $100,000 a few months ago,” said one responding company. “This is a constant thing for us.”

Of course, in addition to the ability to enhance marketing efforts, today’s smart phones and tablets offer an infinite variety of applications, not the least of which are updatable calendars, the ability to instantly receive and send e-mails, driving instructions and more.

Garen Distelhorst, MIA Communications Director, was wowed with the response to the survey, “The tremendous response coupled with the results reflect an industry that is constantly innovating and forward thinking, I hope that our members will continue to look at the MIA as thought leaders in mobile technology.”

Youstone interview with representative of the Qatar national stone trade fair (May 4-7, 2015)

Youstone interview with representative of the Qatar national stone trade fair(May 4-7, 2015)

  • I request you as a representative of the Qatar Fair Company, explain us about the Qatar government visa issuing procedures and the reason for the denial of Iranian participants’ visas until exhibition opening.

We have been organizer of Iranian participants of the Qatar Project Fair for the last 6 years and, we have never faced such a problem. This year, we applied for visas earlier than previous years. Organizer Company should request visa according to license issued by Qatar Ministry of Trade (we also have same procedures in our country).

At the beginning , a list of participants from all over the world with their passport copies, should be sent to the Qatar Ministry of Trade at a specified date. Then, they determine whether to issue avisa or disapprove a participant’s application, based on received lists and their issued licenses. Finally, there will be some accepted participants of say, 1500 persons.

  • Please let’s know how long before the opening, the Qatar government should inform this confirmation to participants?

Normally, we apply for visa one month before the opening date of the fair. We send participants documents for the organizer company of the fair. Then, they pursue the required processes in a week and finally they send all received lists to the Ministry of Trade who send confirmed application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue visas based on their rules and regulations. This year, same process is followed and Iranian participants’ visas were issued. But, at the end, issued visas were sent to the Ministry of Interior for political and security checks to determine which countries get license to attend. Finally, they denied visas for Iran, Russia, Lebanon and Pakistan. Most of Lebanese and Pakistanis participants could get the visa until the trade opening. But Iranians and Russians could not attend at the trade. As a result, 900 square meters space which belonged to these two countries were empty and covered.

مصاحبه-با-نوژان-4 (1)

  • Has the Qatar’s government announced anything officially to Iran’s government?

The Qatar government has done nothing to clarify the situation or apologize officially. As I said before, there is an explanation on the website about visas status which says “under process”, it means the visa issuing is in process and there is no specific problem.

We have requested the authorities for investigation into the matter, but our complaint won’t cure the problem for the present time. However, it might be a solution and avoid further damages for future cases. We don’t know yet about the course of actions our Foreign Ministry and Embassy will conduct and how they complain about the case and the way Qatar’s government will respond. So far, we have received no response from any party yet.

Study of Iraqi Kurdistan Stone Market

Study of Iraqi Kurdistan Stone Market

Iraq’s market is divided into northern and southern divisions, the northern division consists of Dohuk and Hawler, which imports stone from Turkey. This is because of two customs (Zakho & Ibrahim Khalil) that are the most important customs in terms of facilities. Early recognition and investment in this market and long-term planning by Turkey, has earned them the trust of the market. It should be noted that, Turkey’s export is not limited to this area only, but the stone market of whole Iraqi Kurdistan imports from Turkey. The southern division has border with Iran, and there are 2 boundary trading market located there, Bashmakh and Siran Band in Baneh; however only Bashmagh border is used for this purpose.

The only active quarry in Iraqi Kurdistan is called Halan, you can see some of the stones extracted from this quarry in figure 1.

There are two main problems about Iran stones:

  • Lack of trust, this is because of wrong behavior from Iranian exporters and the low quality products they have exported
  • Governments lack of investment in Iraqi Kurdistan’s stone market, and also there is not a decent way for exchanging money.

Different paying methods

  • Credit Card
  • Cooperative
  • Paying in Advance

In respect to current situation and lack of trust in Iranian exporters, credit card method is the most secure method at the moment.

According to the conducted studies, the exported stone is supplied by quarries in Khorramabad, Isfahan, Azerbaijan, Kurdistan and Kerman.
